Ballet Basics

Class Length: 1 hour

Ballet Basics is designed for those who may be new to ballet or for dancers with previous experience looking for a gentle reintroduction for the art form. This class introduces techniques and terminology in a relaxed and approachable setting and is aimed at helping develop comfort and proficiency over time. Ballet Basics classes include barre work, stretching, and movement in the center and across the floor.

About Emily

Emily Edwards grew up in Rockville Centre, New York where she started dancing at the age of two. She just moved to Cincinnati and is now dancing with DE LA Dance Company as a company member. In May of 2020, she graduated summa cum laude from Adelphi University with a B.F.A. in Dance under the mentorship of Frank Augustyn. Following graduation, Emily became a company artist with Ekklesia Contemporary Ballet and performed a wide variety of pieces. While at Adelphi, she performed works by Frank Augustyn, Christopher Fleming, Paul Taylor, Juan Rodriguez, Orion Duckstein, Rasta Thomas, Mia Michaels, and others.

Emily’s other performance credentials at Adelphi include principal roles in Les Odalisques, Paquita, Sleeping Beauty, Cloven Kingdom, Ballet Russe and Play Ball! She spent her summers training at various intensives including BalletX, Orlando Ballet, Dance Italia in Lucca, Italy, American Ballet Theatre, and Joffrey Ballet School. Emily is also finishing the process her Power Pilates Certification!
